The Full Story

Masson Lees Quarry

In the summer of 2024, my father and I first stumbled upon Masson Lees and were absolutely stunned by its beauty. When we learned the land was for sale, we knew we had to do everything we could to protect it. Although it was far beyond our budget, we scraped together funds, secured loans, and committed a portion of our wages each month to make it happen.

Since then, we've been working hard to improve the area while keeping it as natural as possible. With the support of the BMC, we've started building a ramp to improve access to the quarry, but there’s still plenty more to do!

Our Next Goals:

🔹 Responsible Parking Solutions – Providing responsible parking solutions to ease congestion

🔹 Rockfall Reduction – Clearing loose rock to improve safety for visitors

🔹 Ongoing Maintenance & Conservation – Hosting annual route clearance days to keep the site safer and more accessible

We’re committed to keeping Masson Lees open for the community to enjoy, but we need your support to continue these essential projects. Any contribution, big or small, will help us make the quarry safer, more accessible, and sustainable for years to come.

Thank you for being part of this journey—we hope to see you out here soon!

Dead Wood Clearing

We spent a fair few hours working on cutting and chipping the dead wood pile left by the previous owners.

The start of the slope

Our contractor Steve started the slope down into the quarry after we had secured funding from the BMCs ACT grant to help with the costs.

Route Clearance Day

We gathered a team to help us clear loose rock from the tops of climbing routes.

Slope Progress

After Steve crushed a few hundred tons of rock we started laying the base layer of limestone chippings.

Finishing the Slope

To finish off the slope we added some wooden sleepers, to decrease the aggressive angle of the slope.
